It’s Pickle Time + Cook the Book with Meredith Mortensen

October 30, 2014

Hey PDX Food Swappers! You’re cordially invited to join Art Institute of Portland Pastry Chef Meredith Mortensen (our kind hostess each swap at SHARP) for her upcoming events celebrating homemade, seasonal food:

I Pickled That!

Wed, Nov 12th
6 – 9pm
$40 per person
Eventbrite Tickets

Location:
The kitchen at The Art Institute of Portland
34 NW 8th Avenue, Portland, OR 97209

Interested in putting fresh produce up for the winter, but don’t know where to begin? Maybe you love to make preserves and canned goods, but don’t have the space in your current kitchen? Or perhaps you just know that working in the kitchen with a group of people is always more fun? Any way you slice it, we’d love to have you join us on November 12th for the first Canning Class with The Classroom! All you have to do is show up and we’ll provide all the ingredients and equipment needed for making one sweet and one savory canned good.

This month, Erin Simmons, of Tasty and Sons, will share her recipe for Pickled Carrots, and Pastry Chef, Meredith Mortensen will be walking you through Salted Caramel Sauce. We’ll also have light nibbles and beverages,  and a station set up with all the crafty materials you’ll need to make your jars look extra special (think sparkly labels, vintage ribbon, and an array of fabric toppers).

Whether you plan to keep all your goodies for yourself, or share the preserved love with others, you’ll head home with 10 jars of goods, beautifully packaged and ready to enjoy!

Hope you can join us!

Join us for an evening of delicious food based on the recipes from the Toro Bravo Cookbook!

No class format for this event, instead each attendee will prepare a dish from John Gorham’s wonderful book, Toro Bravo. Part memoir, part cookbook, there are plenty of recipes to inspire you to dive into your kitchen this fall.

As John writes in the book, “When I go out to eat now, you can’t bring me too may share plates. If you’re not a good sharer, don’t come to Toro Bravo”.

You bring one dish to share, we’ll take care of the rest. Sign up for the dinner and we’ll assign you a recipe!
