Hello, Swappers!
Registration is now FULL for our Midsummer Backyard Swap & Potluck. (Whew! Less than 24 hours and we’re maxed out. You’re welcome to add your name to the wait list through the registration form below and we’ll be in touch if a spot opens up.)
It’s been quiet on the Food Swap front since our 5th anniversary event in rainy December. After half a decade of seasonal swapping, Lindsay and I took an extended break from this volunteer gig so she could keep trucking with her consulting and event management work and I could welcome a new baby into the world. Then we looked up and saw the bright summer sun and thought about all the regional bounty that’s been preserved and baked and dried and mixed and prepared to serve to friends and decided…Hey, it’s time to swap!
We’re doing something a little different this time:
An intimate backyard swap followed by a picnic blanket potluck.
Don’t hesitate to register if you know you’ll want to come.
Spots go like hotcakes and there’s only room for about half our normal sized crowd.
For those of you who’ve attended our swaps previously, please feel free to scroll down to the registration form at the bottom. If you’re new to the PDX Food Swap – hello and welcome! Read on for details, and please don’t hesitate to ask questions.
Add your name to our mailing list to get notifications of future swaps.
Location:
The Swap will be held at a Private Residence in NE Portland (Near 117th & NE Knott).
Exact address will be sent out to registered swappers.
What: A Food Swap is part silent auction/part village marketplace/part open house where your homemade creations (breads, preserves, infusions, canned goods, etc.) become your own personal currency for use in swapping with other participants. What better way to diversify your pantry and meet a few new food-minded friends?
Bring an assortment of your homemade edible specialties (and even a few non-edibles, such as: lip balm, soaps, etc.) to exchange for other handcrafted delights. We will provide swapping cards, name tags, and organization for the event. You will be given the opportunity to offer trades in a silent-auction type format, and you will be free to choose which trades to accept for your products. Bring as much or as little as you like; there are no caps or minimums.
Who: Pacific Northwesterners {aka the Willamette Valley, the Portland Metro Area, and our Neighbors to the North}.
Please note, we are unable to provide childcare for this event.
Cost: A suggested donation of your hand crafted goods or a small monetary donation to the supply-fund jar helps cover the cost and energy of swap organizers.
RSVP below with your name, contact info, & description of items you plan to trade.
Make sure to register early! Due to limited space, we are capping the number of swappers at 15 and will maintain a waiting list.
On the day of the swap, please bring your hand crafted goods and arrive promptly at the start time. Please don’t arrive early – we won’t be quite ready for you! The first half-hour of the event is dedicated to swapper sign-in, set-up, and samples, and we’ll only begin swapping once everyone’s settled in.
Feel free to bring samples of your goods for others to try during the open browsing portion of the swap.
It’s as simple as that! We’re excited as always to meet one another and celebrate the bounty of the seasons and the fruits of our labor. If you have any questions about the swap, please refer to this handy list of FAQs.
Feel free to Tweet/Instagram about the fun before, during, and after – it’s always great to see what everyone’s making, sharing, and celebrating!
